(Please note this position is available on a five year fixed term contract) 

The Competition Commission is looking for a versatile general manager to join its executive team as a Divisional Manager, Corporate Services. Reporting to the Commissioner, the incumbent’s role is to provide general leadership of all support services of the Commission. The support services are Human Capital, Security and Facilities, Information Technology, Registry, and the Information Resource Centre. The Commission is a high performing public agency and will rely on the incumbent in ensuring that it has best practices in integrating people, systems and processes for organisational effectiveness and efficiency.

To be successful in this role, you should be a thoughtful leader and a confident decision-maker, who will constantly review policies and practises in line with the Commission’s strategic goals and prevailing laws.


Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • A post-graduate degree preferably at a Masters level.
  • At least 13 years proven experience in general management or similar executive role of which 6 years must have been in executive management.
  • Working knowledge of the PFMA and workplace laws.
  • Knowledge of business process and functions (finance, HR, procurement, operations etc.)
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment, good organizational skills and proven leadership qualities/abilities.
  • Experience in working with multiple and diverse functions.
  • Problem-solving aptitude
  • Experience in planning and budgeting

The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include:

  • Providing day to day oversight of organisational processes and operations
  • Overseeing Human Capital, Security and Facilities and IT and Registry units
  • Designing strategy and setting goals for growth and ensuring strategy evaluation and monitoring is done at a strategic level.
  • Maintaining budgets and optimize expenses
  • Evaluating and improving operations.
  • Ensuring employees work productively and develop professionally
  • Preparing regular reports
  • Providing solutions to issues
  • Participating in relevant Governance structures.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with the relevant stakeholders.
  • Playing a coaching and mentorship role.
  • Driving projects
  • Establishing policy, processes and guidelines for operational excellence
  • Managing risk in the division and contributing to organisational risk management activities

The candidate must have the following attributes:

  • Strong management, strategic, analytical and investigative skills;
  • Self-starter;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, with good organising skills and proven leadership qualities/abilities ;
  • Ability to take initiative and work in a highly pressurised environment;
  • Ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team on complex cartel investigation.
